Thunderbolt Audio Card Setup

After several days of finagling and hair-pulling, the Focusrite Clarett 8pre Thunderbolt 2 audio card is setup and working!! Still having one issue;

The main outs (1/4 mono out, paired as stereo) need a method to play through computer speakers (1/8 male stereo) (I have some nice Klipch I want to use...). I picked up one of those Y adapters. It doesn't work (it does not combine 2 mono into one stereo jack...).

Instead, I picked up a small Bheringer mixer and will use that to hack a solution. Also gives me some flexibility down the road.

Here is some advice on setting up Thunderbolt 2 on Windows.

  1. Find the latest drivers for your motherboard's Thunderbolt interface and install them first!
  2. Install the card, then enable in BIOS.
  3. After you start up, install all drivers again.
  4. Install all drivers/controller software for Focusrite.
  5. Pick up an Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter!
  6. Plug in the sound card, restart.
Also, if you have an ASUS motherboard, and you're using the EXIII expansion card, DO NOT fully enable USB support on bootup!! You BIOS will not load after that.

My latest gear should be here before the end of the week. Then I can spend some time making music this weekend!
